Experience Overview

In this intimate one-hour glass art workshop, you’ll step inside a renovated traditional building that once housed a dyeing shop, now transformed into the tranquil studio of Miku, a contemporary glass artist who trained at the Toyama Institute of Glass Art and the Utatsuyama Craft Workshop.

This experience is a journey into the world of Japanese craftsmanship, creativity, and mindfulness through the medium of glass.

I find beauty in quiet, everyday moments — the small happiness we often overlook.”

Miku’s work explores the layers of color and light that emerge when glass overlaps. Her creative philosophy is rooted in gratitude for daily life and the gentle rhythm of handmade craft. Trained in traditional and contemporary glass techniques — including hot work, kiln work, and cold work — she combines artistry and technical mastery to produce tableware, sake cups, and luminous glass panels that seem to hold sunlight within.

You'll design your own cutlery rest or small glass piece using the sandblasting technique — part of the “cold work" process in glass art. This involves masking your glass with tape, drawing your design, cutting it with a craft knife, and then etching it using pressurized sand. The result is a delicate frosted pattern that glows when it catches the light. While you work, you'll enjoy a cup of Kanazawa-style roasted tea, a beloved local drink made from roasted tea stems with a rich, soothing aroma.

Miku Kohno

Born in Osaka in 1997, Miku is a contemporary glass artist based in Kanazawa, Japan.
Her work explores the interplay of light, transparency, and layered color, expressing the quiet beauty found in everyday life.
After completing advanced studies at the Toyama City Institute of Glass Art (Research Department, 2020), she honed her skills at the Toyama Glass Studio before joining the prestigious Utatsuyama Craft Workshop in Kanazawa (2022–2025). There, she deepened her artistic research and developed her signature style, combining hot work, kiln work, and cold work techniques to create luminous glassware, art panels, and sculptural pieces.
