It’s warm in Kanazawa today, but starting tomorrow the temperature will suddenly drop, bringing December-like cold. Please make sure to bundle up if you’re heading out tomorrow.

Our 100-year-old machiya has lots of drafts and gets quite chilly, so we’ve prepared several heaters in anticipation of the cold.
The shrubs in front of IN KANAZAWA HOUSE have fully turned color and are looking beautifully autumnal 🍁

It’s getting colder day by day, but seeing the camellia buds swelling makes me look forward to the coming winter ❄️

It’s just over a 10-minute walk from IN KANAZAWA HOUSE to the market. There, you can find fresh, locally rooted ingredients such as meat, seafood, vegetables, fruits, local sake, and even eel.

Right now, the market is full of delicious seasonal produce — root vegetables, mushrooms, and autumn fruits. Since the start of the trawl fishing season in September, fresh seafood has also become readily available at reasonable prices.

At the kitchen table of IN KANAZAWA HOUSE, there was an impressively large cluster of maitake mushrooms!

Today, during Miki’s Kanazawa Home Cooking Class, the guests will be enjoying them as freshly fried tempura. 😋

These maitake mushrooms were purchased at the Omicho Market and come from Hakusan City, adjacent to Kanazawa. They are extremely rare and available only for a short period each year. Thick, fragrant, and full of flavor—served hot as tempura, they are guaranteed to be delicious!

Other seasonal ingredients such as Gorojima Kintoki sweet potatoes🍠 and Kaga lotus root—both examples of Kaga Yasai, the traditional heirloom vegetables unique to the Kanazawa region—will also be prepared as tempura🍤

Just imagining it makes my mouth water! 🤤

IN KANAZAWA HOUSEのキッチンのテーブルに置いてあったのは、とっても大きな「舞茸」の株！

今日のミキさんの「金沢家庭料理教室」で、ゲストの皆さんと天ぷらにして食べるのだそう😋

近江町市場で買ってきたこの舞茸は金沢市のお隣、白山市産もので、市場でもほんの限られた時期しか入手できないとても貴重なもの。
肉厚の香り豊かな舞茸を、熱々の天ぷらで。
これは絶対に美味しいに違いない〜！

他にも、旬の加賀野菜である五郎島金時🍠や加賀蓮根も天ぷらに。
想像しただけでもヨダレがでますね🤤

We recently hosted our very first Bento-Making Experience with Instructor Miki🍱✨

Participants created their own unique bento lunches using a variety of ingredients thoughtfully prepared in advance by Miki. These included beloved Japanese classics such as karaage (fried chicken) and tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), alongside seasonal side dishes made with local Kaga vegetables—like kinpira-style Kaga lotus root and sweet potato salad featuring Gorojima Kintoki. Guests then arranged their selections in traditional magewappa wooden bento boxes.

Originally, the plan was to enjoy lunch together in a nearby park 🌳 However, with rain falling on the day ☔️, everyone instead found their favorite cozy spot within the machiya to enjoy their meal.

There’s something truly special about eating a bento you’ve packed yourself. It was heartwarming to see everyone savoring their handmade lunches with such delight 😊

先日、初めての取り組みとして、講師のみきさんによる「お弁当作り体験」が行われました🍱✨

唐揚げや卵焼きなど、日本人なら誰しもが大好きなお弁当のおかずに加え、加賀蓮根のきんぴらや五郎島金時のポテトサラダなど地元の加賀野菜を使ったおかずなどを、みきさんが事前に用意。それらを曲げわっぱのお弁当箱にお客様自身に自由に詰めてもらい、それを近くの公園でお昼ご飯に食べようという企画です🌳

栄養バランスや見た目の彩りの豊かさから、近年海外でも注目されている、日本のお弁当の魅力。皆さんとても楽しんで、世界に一つの自分のお弁当作りを楽しんでいらっしゃいました✨

あいにくこの日は雨模様。。☔️
みなさんに町家の好きな場所を選んでお弁当を召し上がって頂きました。自分で詰めたお弁当は格別ですよね。皆さんとても美味しそうに食べている様子がとても嬉しかったです😊

A Glass Atelier in a 100-Year-Old Machiya💎

Since April of this year, glass artist Miku Kono has been using a space on the second floor of IN KANAZAWA HOUSE as her atelier, where she continues her creative work.

Bathed in the natural light streaming through the old townhouse’s glass windows, her pieces—each one unique—are born from an exploration of “colors and forms created through layering.” They carry a warm charm that feels both timeless and nostalgic.

When time allows, international guests visiting IN KANAZAWA HOUSE for cooking classes or other experiences also stop by the atelier. There, they enjoy seeing the tools and artworks up close, meeting Miku in person, and spending a brief but memorable moment in this special space.

We are truly delighted that this 100-year-old machiya has been given new life as a creative hub for a talented local artist. It feels as though the house itself is happy, too.

「重なりでできる色と形」について追求しながら生み出される作品はどれも唯一無二で、どこか懐かしさも覚える温かな魅力に溢れています。

料理教室などの体験で海外からIN KANAZAWA HOUSEに訪れたゲストの方々も、時間にゆとりがある場合は最後にアトリエを訪れ、使われている道具や作品を目にし、未來さんと直接会話を交わし、その空間に流れる特別な時間を非常に楽しんでくださっています。

築約100年の町家が、また少し生まれ変わり、こうして地元の若いアーティストの方の新たな活動の場として生かされていること。そのことが私たちもとても嬉しいですし、町家もすごく喜んでいるような気がします。
