Introducing our new cultural experience: Samurai Iaido Experience🗡️✨

Set in Kanazawa, this experience takes place at Yokokan Dojo—the last remaining historic kendo dojo in the city, where martial artists still train today.

Led by an experienced instructor who has trained generations of local practitioners, you’ll learn the foundations of Iaido, including its history, samurai culture, etiquette, and posture. Using a safe practice sword, you’ll slowly practice essential movements such as drawing and sheathing the blade.

Each movement requires deep focus—often described as “moving meditation.”�Step away from the noise of daily life and immerse yourself in a quiet, mindful moment.

You’ll also gain insight into real Japanese swords—their structure, craftsmanship, beauty, and the deeper meaning they held for the samurai. More than just weapons, they symbolized discipline, responsibility, and spirit.

この体験が行われる場所は、金沢最後の歴史ある剣道場「養浩館」。現在金沢市内で唯一現存する歴史ある剣道場であり、実際に武道の稽古が行われ続けている非常に希少な存在です。

長年地域の武道家を育て上げてきた先生から、居合道の歴史や武士文化、礼法や姿勢などの基本はもちろん、安全な模擬刀を使っての刀の抜き方や納め方などをゆっくりと体験していきます。
一つひとつの動きに集中する時間は、まるで“動く瞑想”。�日常を離れ、静かな自分と向き合うひとときを過ごせます。

さらに、本物の日本刀の構造や美しさ、武士にとっての意味を学ぶ解説も。刀が単なる武器ではなく、精神や責任の象徴であったことを深く理解できます。

With the arrival of warm spring days, we are delighted to welcome more guests to IN KANAZAWA HOUSE.

The other day, our townhouse was gently filled with activity—on the first floor, guests enjoyed both Temari-Sushi Making and Kanazawa Home Cooking Class, while on the second floor, a Kintsugi experience was taking place.

We also had the pleasure of reuniting with tour guides who visit with their guests. Sharing moments like “It’s been a while” and “How have you been?” is one of the many joys that this season brings.

As spring unfolds, our machiya becomes livelier day by day. Even so, we remain committed to cherishing each and every guest, and to creating meaningful, memorable experiences with heartfelt hospitality 🌸

We recently welcomed three families from Canada for our Wadaiko (Japanese Drums) Experience!
The lesson was led by Hiroyuki Iwaki, whose work is rooted in the 400-year tradition of Kaga Taiko, while also exploring new styles of Japanese drumming.

They first practiced the basic drumming techniques, and by the end everyone played one piece together as a group.
Finally, they enjoyed a powerful and energetic performance by Iwaki-san and his team.

We have several types of taiko drums, and this is the only place in Kanazawa where you can even try playing the large odaiko drum. Both adults and children joined with big smiles, and it made us very happy to see everyone enjoying the experience so much.

先日、カナダからお越しの3組のご家族が、和太鼓体験に参加してくださいました！
400年以上の伝統を誇る加賀太鼓をルーツに持ち、現在も新しい和太鼓のスタイルを追求されている岩城博之さんから、和太鼓の演奏を学びます。
 まず、基本の打ち方を教わりながら練習し、参加者みんなで1曲の演奏に挑戦。
最後には岩城さんたちによる、躍動感あふれる迫力満点の演奏を鑑賞されました。

体験ではさまざまな種類の太鼓に触れることができ、特に大太鼓を演奏できるのは金沢でもここだけ。 大人もお子さんもとても楽しそうに参加されていて、私たちも嬉しい気持ちになりました。

For more than a century, our machiya townhouse has quietly welcomed people and continued to breathe with life.
Within this house, the “doors,” “sliding panels,” and “windows” each carry their own design, colors, and textures—gently holding stories that have been woven through the passing years.
A traditional frosted glass door that softly filters the light.�Fusuma sliding doors decorated with Kanazawa Karakami, patterns created by local mounting artisans and inspired by the culture and natural landscape of Kanazawa.�And the heavy plaster door of the storehouse, which has protected the kura for generations.
In our daily lives, we may hardly notice them, as they simply separate one space from another.�Yet when we see them through the eyes of our guests, their quiet beauty reveals itself anew. In those moments, we are reminded of the refined aesthetic sensibilities of the people who lived here long ago.
Earlier this week, snowflakes drifted down for the first time in a while.�But the quiet winter of the machiya is nearly over.
A lively spring is already just around the corner.

百年の時を越え、今もなお人々を迎え、静かに息づいている私たちの町家。
この家にある「戸」や「扉」、「窓」は、それぞれに異なる意匠や色、質感をまとい、長い歳月の中で紡がれてきた物語をそっと宿しています。
やわらかな光を通す、昔ながらの擦りガラスの戸。�金沢の文化や風土をモチーフに、地元の表具職人たちが生み出した文様「金沢からかみ」をあしらった襖。�そして、蔵を守り続けてきた重厚な漆喰の扉。
普段の私たちにとって、それらはただ空間を隔てる存在に過ぎないのかもしれません。�けれど、訪れてくださるゲストの方々のまなざしや気づきに触れるたび、そこに息づく静かな美しさや、昔の人々の研ぎ澄まされた美意識に、ふと心を打たれる瞬間があります。
今週の前半、久しぶりに雪がちらつきましたが、�静まり返った町家の冬も、もう終わり。
賑やかな春が訪れが、すぐそこまで来ています。

In conjunction with Mizuho Takeda’s solo exhibition at atelier & gallery creava in Nagamachi, we are hosting a one-day-only special tea gathering at IN KANAZAWA HOUSE.

The venue is our 100-year-old machiya townhouse🏡
 During the event, you can enjoy a tea demonstration using tea utensils created by Takeda herself, presented by the artist.
The sweets are special seasonal wagashi created by Yoshihashi exclusively for this event. In addition, Flowers Atelier Cosmos will arrange flowers inspired by Takeda’s works, creating a unique space for this one day only to welcome all guests🌿

A talk session will also be held, where Takeda will share the ideas and background behind her tea utensils.
Relax and enjoy a calm, unhurried time in the machiya. Everyone is welcome, including first-time visitors😊

The chopstick rests and cutlery rests used in our culinary experience are designed to bring joy to the table.
These uplifting designs were created by sibling artists from Kanazawa City, Kanta Wajima and Kaede Wajima.
Both artists are on the autism spectrum and have developmental differences, yet each possesses extraordinary and unique artistic talent. Today, they collaborate with well-known companies and continue to expand their fan base across Japan. Their powerful, joy-filled art brings energy and happiness to everyone who sees it.
Kanta’s work is characterized by dynamic compositions filled edge-to-edge with people, characters, and various motifs—densely detailed and bursting with life.
Kaede’s art features rhythmic, warm patterns inspired by intricate paper cuttings she carefully creates with scissors.
Simply looking at their illustrations brightens the heart. Their art brings color, warmth, and joy to the space where we host our experiences.
Many of our guests choose to purchase these pieces as souvenirs, taking home a special memory of their time with us.
Within each small chopstick rest is a powerful sense of happiness and creativity. We hope to continue sharing the beauty and energy of their art with guests visiting from around the world.

私たちの料理体験でお客様にお使いいただいている、お箸置きとカトラリーレスト。
この心躍るデザインを手がけたのは、金沢市出身の兄妹アーティスト、輪島貫太さん・輪島楓さん。
お二人は発達特性を持ちながら、それぞれに唯一無二の才能を発揮し、日本中にファンを広げています。今では有名企業とのコラボレーションも多数。見る人を元気にする、力強くハッピーなアートが多くの人の心をつかんでいます。
貫太さんの作品は、一枚の紙いっぱいに人物やキャラクター、モチーフがぎっしりと描き込まれた、エネルギーあふれる世界観が魅力。楓さんは、ハサミでチョキチョキ切り出した切り絵から生まれる、リズミカルであたたかみのあるパターンが特徴です。
見ているだけで心が明るくなるお二人のイラストは、私たちの体験の空間も、いつも楽しく彩ってくれています。
IN KANAZAWA HOUSEでの体験の思い出として、体験後にお土産として購入してくださるゲストの方も多くいらっしゃいます。
この小さな箸置きに込められた、お二人の溢れんばかりのエネルギー。
