Tour Overview
It’s the kind of food you could enjoy every day and never grow tired of — comforting, familiar, and full of warmth. That’s the magic of home cooking.
Why not join us for a cozy, heartwarming experience? Share a meal from the same pot, enjoy easy conversation, and savor the simple joy of eating together, just like at home. Let’s create those moments that feel both special and beautifully ordinary.
At the heart of traditional Japanese home cooking is the concept of “Ichijū Sansai” — one soup and three dishes. A comforting bowl of fluffy rice and a flavorful dashi-based soup are always the foundation. These are accompanied by one main dish and two side dishes, carefully prepared for a perfect balance of taste, texture, and nutrition.
Home-style meals also reflect the spirit of the region, using fresh local and seasonal ingredients. In Kanazawa, we’re lucky to enjoy the best of both the sea and the mountains, offering an abundance of seasonal ingredients all year round.
In this experience, you’ll enjoy a warm and satisfying home-cooked meal using the freshest ingredients Kanazawa has to offer — the kind of meal that makes us think, “I’d be so happy if this were tonight’s dinner!”.Typical dishes include: Steamed rice, Miso soup, Deep-fried favorites like tempura or Tatsuta-age (fried chicken), Dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet), Seasonal Kaga vegetable dishes. Join us for a taste of everyday comfort, prepared with care and full of regional flavor.
Step into the heart of Japanese home cooking with a warm, hands-on experience in Kanazawa. You'll learn how to prepare perfectly steamed rice, create traditional dashi (soup stock), and discover time-honored techniques and thoughtful touches unique to everyday Japanese cuisine. More than just recipes, we’ll share the deeper spirit of Japanese food culture — one that values every ingredient with gratitude and respect, using each part to its fullest. The dishes include rice, miso soup, deep fried foods such as tempura or fried chicken Tatsuta, Dashimaki Tamago (egg omelet), and Kaga vegetable dishes.
All ingredients are carefully selected from Omicho Market, known as “the kitchen of Kanazawa,” to ensure you enjoy the freshest seasonal flavors that locals love. Your meal will be served with fragrant Kaga-bōcha tea, and a delightful dessert to finish on a sweet note.
To complete the experience, dishes are presented in beautifully curated Kutani porcelain and lacquerware, offering a full sensory immersion in Kanazawa’s culture. The class takes place in a lovingly restored traditional Kanazawa townhouse, once a dyeing workshop and home. Renovated to preserve its historic charm, it provides a serene and authentic setting to enjoy your meal. Relax, take in the atmosphere, and savor a truly comforting home-cooked experience in the heart of Japan.
The experience takes place in a traditional Kanazawa-style townhouse (machiya), one of the larger and more spacious wooden buildings of its kind. This townhouse, a former dyeing workshop, features a traditional design and was built with traditional building techniques. Our goal was not only to preserve the building's rich history and its original features but also to create a welcoming and engaging venue where guests can fully immerse themselves in the culture of Kanazawa.
