Tour Overview

Kanazawa is a city steeped in samurai heritage. For nearly 300 years, beginning with the legendary Maeda Toshiie during the tumultuous Warring States period, successive generations of feudal lords have carefully cultivated Kanazawa’s distinctive samurai culture. In the Samurai Cultural Course, a professional guide will lead you through the historic Kanazawa Castle and the enchanting Kenrokuen Garden—both treasure troves of hidden stories and heritage. You will then partake in a traditional tea ceremony at Kenroku-tei, nestled within Kenrokuen Garden, a place once cherished by clan lords and samurai alike. During this serene tea ceremony, savor exquisite powdered green tea while admiring exquisite traditional crafts, including Kutani porcelain and elegant lacquerware, immersing yourself fully in the refined aesthetics of the samurai era.

  • Kanazawa Castle visit

    • Step into the world of the samurai as you explore five key highlights of Kanazawa Castle—Ishikawa Gate, San-no-Maru, Hashizume Yagura, Ni-no-Maru, and Tsuru-no-Maru—accompanied by a professional guide. Learn about the castle's strategic role and uncover the daily life and values of the samurai who once lived here.

  • Kenrokuen Garden

    • Recognized as one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan, Kenrokuen Garden is a masterpiece of feudal landscaping. Accompanied by a knowledgeable researcher, discover its deep historical ties to the Maeda family lords and experience how nature and refinement shaped the lives of the samurai.

  • Tea Ceremony

    • At Kenrokutei, a historic site where the Maeda lords once received their most honored guests, immerse yourself in the beauty and serenity of a traditional tea ceremony. This is your chance to experience Kanazawa’s refined tea culture in a place rich with history and elegance.

    • The tea ceremony is thoughtfully designed to be accessible and enjoyable—even for those who find sitting on the floor difficult. Your experience begins with a graceful demonstration by the tea master, who will show you the art of preparing tea, followed by a chance for you to try it yourself. You’ll also receive a gentle introduction to the fundamentals of the tea ceremony and guidance on how to use the tea utensils, making it easy and welcoming for beginners to join in with confidence. At the end of the session, a commemorative photo will be taken to capture this special moment—celebrating a unique and memorable encounter. We hope this experience will deepen your appreciation for the timeless beauty and charm of the tea ceremony.
