-Make & Eat Onigirazu with Japanese Aunties in a 100-Year-Old Kanazawa Machiya-
Looking for a truly local experience in Kanazawa—something beyond temples, gardens, and standard tours?
This intimate food experience takes place inside a traditional Kanazawa machiya townhouse that is over 100 years old. Step away from the usual tourist spots and enjoy a more personal side of everyday life in the city.
You’ll be welcomed into a warm, home-style space by friendly local aunties who greet you like family.
Together, you’ll make your own colorful Onigirazu—a Japanese rice sandwich made with rice, nori (seaweed), and your choice of fillings such as egg, vegetables, salmon, tuna mayonnaise, Spam, bacon, sausage, kinpira gobo, and other Japanese favorites.
Layer the rice and fillings onto nori, fold it into a neat package, and slice it in half to reveal the colorful cross-section. Rice paper is also available for guests who prefer not to eat seaweed.
This isn’t a formal cooking class, but a relaxed, hands-on experience where your local hosts gently guide you while sharing stories about Japanese food, daily life, and Kanazawa.
Whether you’re traveling alone, as a couple, with friends, or family, Auntie’s Table offers the warm feeling of spending time in a local Japanese home.
After cooking, sit down together to enjoy the meal you’ve created. There’s no rush—just a shared table, good food, and genuine hospitality. Surrounded by the quiet charm of the Higashi Chaya District, this becomes more than just a meal—it’s a moment of living, even briefly, like a local.
Conveniently located within walking distance of major attractions, the experience fits easily into your itinerary while offering something far more personal and memorable.
More than a typical “cooking class,” this is a chance to truly connect with local residents in a natural, relaxed setting. With small groups, the atmosphere remains intimate and easygoing, giving you plenty of space to ask questions, share stories, and enjoy meaningful exchanges.
No prior cooking experience is needed. With gentle guidance from your host, you’ll learn as you go—making it enjoyable for beginners, while still offering depth for those with a deeper interest in Japanese cuisine and culture.
