Tour Overview

Discover Temari Sushi in Kanazawa
Experience Japanese food culture through a hands-on Temari Sushi making class in Kanazawa.

Kanazawa is renowned for its fresh seafood, Kaga vegetables and rich culinary traditions. In this experience, you will use a colorful selection of local and seasonal ingredients to create Temari Sushi — small, beautifully shaped pieces of sushi inspired by traditional Japanese temari balls.

With more than 15 different toppings available, you can create your own combinations using seafood, meat, vegetables and other ingredients. Whether you prefer familiar flavors or want to try something uniquely local, each piece can be made differently.

What Is Temari Sushi?

Temari Sushi is a colorful, ball-shaped style of sushi named after traditional Japanese temari balls.

Unlike conventional nigiri sushi, Temari Sushi is small, round and particularly known for its beautiful presentation. Different toppings can be combined to create colorful patterns, making each piece almost like a small work of art.

During the experience, your instructor will also introduce the history of sushi and explain what makes Temari Sushi unique.

Learn How to Make Temari Sushi

Your instructor will demonstrate the techniques before you begin making your own sushi.

You will learn how to prepare and shape sushi rice, select and arrange toppings, create the distinctive Temari Sushi shape and present your finished sushi beautifully.

No previous cooking or sushi-making experience is required.

The class is designed so that beginners and experienced cooks alike can enjoy discovering Japanese food culture through a practical, hands-on experience.

More Than 15 Different Toppings

One of the highlights of the experience is the variety of ingredients available. Choose from more than 15 toppings, including seafood, vegetables, meat and seasonal ingredients. Kanazawa is particularly famous for its seafood and locally grown Kaga vegetables, giving you an opportunity to discover some of the ingredients that define the region's food culture.

Enjoy Your Temari Sushi

After making your sushi, sit down and enjoy your creations together with dessert and Kaga bocha, Kanazawa's traditional roasted tea. Rather than simply eating sushi at a restaurant, this experience gives you the opportunity to understand how sushi is prepared and to take the techniques home with you.

It is a memorable way to experience Japanese cuisine during your stay in Kanazawa.

Experience Japanese Culture in a Traditional Kanazawa Machiya

The experience takes place at IN KANAZAWA HOUSE, a restored traditional Kanazawa machiya townhouse.

The building was originally used as a dyeing workshop and retains the character and craftsmanship of traditional Kanazawa architecture. Surrounded by wood, traditional design and a Japanese garden, guests can experience not only Japanese cuisine but also the atmosphere of a historic Kanazawa home.

Private and Shared Experiences

Both private and shared Temari Sushi experiences are available.

The private experience is ideal for couples, families and groups looking for a more personal experience.

The shared class offers an opportunity to enjoy Temari Sushi making together with other travelers visiting Kanazawa.
