Tour Overview
This tour will guide you around the city of Tsurugi, an area surrounding Mt. Haku, known as one of three famous mountains (Mt. Fuji, Mt. Tateyama, Mt. Haku) in Japan. In Japan, mountain worship has existed since ancient times, and Mt.Haku has developed as one of the centers of mountain worship and continues to influence people's lives today. Through this tour, you will experience the rich nature of Mt. Haku, Japanese local life, and the culture of Tsurugi.
The tour starts along the Tedori River (a name also used for a famous sake brewed in this region), and heads towards Shishiku hill, an area from where you can enjoy the beautiful view of rice terraces, seasonal flowers, and Tsurugi townscape.
We drop by Shirayama Hime Jinja Shrine which was established here over 2,100 years ago, and for many centuries has provided a base for those making this reverential trip up the mountain; today, it serves as the head shrine for Hakusan and Shirayama shrines nationwide, dedicated to this sacred mountain. Shirayama Hime Jinja Shrine is also the grand shrine that protects the Hokuriku region, locally known by the nickname Shirayama-san.
At the top of the hill, we will visit a museum where we can view a large wood-carved lion head that is used for local festivals. *For your safety, tours may be cancelled due to the weather conditions.
